The politics of spite! I am so glad that someone is finally pointing this out. I have been feeling the frustration of this tendency, particularly regarding the public health care option. It seems that the more we suffer as a country, the better it will be for the republican party, in their eyes. How sick is that?

Seven Sisters Falls, Grenada This hike was an absolute highlight of the trip for me. It is just so incredibly pristine and beautiful in the rainforest there and the hiking in that pure air was fantastically rejuvenating. Then the most amazing waterfalls waited for us to swim in at the end of our climb. Simply paradise.

Hope Over Fear! I wish everyone a most happy and blessed inauguration day. While I had no loss of words to describe my delight at being rid of George Bush, after hearing the incredible, visionary inaugural address of our 44th President Obama, I am simply touched to tears.

Bush's parting anti choice gift! Please repost...
Please take 2 minutes to send a message to the Obama administration asking them to overturn Bush's ludicrous rule:
http://www. ppaction. org/campaign/hhsdec08_ppol?rk=ad_Erb41OIb0E
DETAILS: The Bush administration has released a rule that could allow individual health care providers who receive federal funding to redefine abortion to include the most common forms of birth control — and then refuse to provide these basic services. A woman's ability to manage her own health care is at risk of being compromised by politics and ideology.
With the health of so many women at stake, the Obama administration must begin working immediately to reverse this rule. Sign your name to the petition below so that when the Obama administration begins in January, they'll know we need them to act quickly to protect women's health and reproductive freedom.

"Patriotism swells in the heart of the american bear" I haven't been able to write about the election yet, because it's still just sinking in that my vote actually counted and that this dream is manifest, but I keep catching myself feeling an optimism about the future that I haven't felt in a very long time and that a big part of me feared I would never feel again. I am unspeakably happy and have cried several times when thinking of the potential for progress that I feel swelling in our country now. Yes, despite my fading disbelief... I do feel hope.

Apples and Pumpkins I just realized that I never posted an entry about my day of apple and pumpkin picking with Janie. We took the Metro North upstate to this orchard out in the sticks. It was a gorgeous day. We walked 2 miles each way from the station to the farm and the foliage was gorgeous. When we got there the scene included cinnamon apple doughnuts, hot cider, and kids running around being an adorable nuisance. Most of the people were close to the entrance, so we had a relatively peaceful time once we wandered off into the orchards. We brought back apples and I made an apple pie from scratch and Janie made an apple crisp. I think that I'll stop by Janie's place tomorrow to make a pie out of that little pumpkin we brought back. Yum!

Southpark me wishes you a Happy Halloween!

A little early, I know but when gojiraeight inspired me to play around with this, I just couldn't resist adding the jack o lantern. Once the pumpkin was there I couldn't fight the fact that it's a halloween greeting either. Funny how my self portrait was only one detail away from being a halloween card. *shrugs*

Sarah Palin's Banned Books "An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all." - Oscar Wilde
In the current issue of Time Magazine, the publication confirms stories circulating on the internet that the Republican Nominee for Vice President sought to censor books at the Wasilla Public Library.
Their story states: "Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had Baker fired for not giving "full support" to the mayor. " Citizen uproar forced Palin to reinstate Baker, who resigned two years later because "Palin was too hard to work for."

IS THAT ALL THERE IS? - Peggy Lee SPOKEN: I remember when I was a very little girl, our house caught on fire. I'll never forget the look on my father's face as he gathered me up in his arms and raced through the burning building out to the pavement. I stood there shivering in my pajamas and watched the whole world go up in flames. And when it was all over I said to myself, "Is that all there is to a fire"
SUNG: Is that all there is, is that all there is If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing Let's break out the booze and have a ball If that's all there is
SPOKEN: And when I was 12 years old, my father took me to a circus, the greatest show on earth. There were clowns and elephants and dancing bears. And a beautiful lady in pink tights flew high above our heads. And so I sat there watching the marvelous spectacle. I had the feeling that something was missing. I don't know what, but when it was over, I said to myself, "is that all there is to a circus?
SUNG: Is that all there is, is that all there is If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing Let's break out the booze and have a ball If that's all there is
SPOKEN: Then I fell in love, head over heels in love, with the most wonderful boy in the world. We would take long walks by the river or just sit for hours gazing into each other's eyes. We were so very much in love. Then one day he went away and I thought I'd die, but I didn't, and when I didn't I said to myself, "is that all there is to love?"
SUNG: Is that all there is, is that all there is If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing
SPOKEN: I know what you must be saying to yourselves, if that's the way she feels about it why doesn't she just end it all? Oh, no, not me. I'm in no hurry for that final disappointment, for I know just as well as I'm standing here talking to you, when that final moment comes and I'm breathing my lst breath, I'll be saying to myself
SUNG: Is that all there is, is that all there is If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing Let's break out the booze and have a ball If that's all there is
